Emergency supplies for outdoor activities

Campers and outdoor activity enthusiasts are well aware of the benefits of carrying well stocked survival kits. Emergency supplies not only bailout campers during predicaments; they also allow them to keep in touch with civilization, even from remote areas. Here is a list of items that are a must for all of your survival kits.

Directional Maps: It is important for campers to have an updated map of the area in which they are camping. This map should have clear directions of all the routes and must also indicate locations where additional supplies like water, food, medicines, etc. can be procured. The campers must also ensure that they have gone through the route map before commencing their camping activities.

Camping gear: Emergency supplies must include additional shelter providing items like canopies, blankets and sleeping bags. These items are prone to constant wear and tear due to their exposure to the elements of nature and are often the first items to get damaged. Repair kits with items like thread, staple pins, needles, etc. must also be included.

Tools: a basic bit of emergency tools like screwdrivers, pins, bolts, spanners, etc. must also be included. These items are often overlooked because they are heavy to carry. But, many a time, these tools are helpful in fixing and securing the camping gear. A basic set of camping tools can be bought from hardware shops and contain all the tools that can do an adequate job.

Clothing: Campers and outdoor activity enthusiasts often carry light clothes to reduce their weight burden. But it is prudent o carry some bad weather clothes like raincoats, boots and jackets. These clothes not only protect them from sudden onsets of inclement weather, they also offer protection against injuries when the campers carry out physical activities like trekking, rock climbing etc.

Communication equipment: Mobile phones are not a reliable mode of communication in remote areas. Often, their signals fail and get disrupted due to various reasons. It is important to carry additional equipments like radio (set to local rescue frequency), whistles, laser beam projectors, flares, etc. these items can come handy when campers are stranded and are in need of urgent rescue, even if the mobile phones fail them.

Other emergency supplies: Additional food (that does not need cooking), lighting equipment, fire equipment, multipurpose knives, medication, water storage and collection equipment, etc. are ideal additions to the survival kits.
